Charlie Productions : Art DirectorThe Art Director works underneath the Production Designer, supervising the construction of sets and the painting needed to get those sets looking realistic. But seeing as we've mainly worked in real-life locations, for us the Art Director is all about dressing a location so it becomes not only a believable space, but one that actively adds a huge amount of understanding of the characters and their story. Having for so many years been too rushed to worry about a blank bit of wall, there is nothing more exciting than feeling the Art Director peering over your shoulder at the monitor to gauge what is and isn't in shot, and then marshalling their crew to make that blankness become just what it should be so the shot looks perfect. The phrase "putting the money up on the screen" always pings through our minds when this happens... Charlie Productions believe passionately in doing things and always trying to stop in time for tea.
