Charlie Productions : Script Editor
Ally, antagonist, therapist, devil incarnate pulling you to a doom of your own making. You'll know when you're shaking the hand of a real story editor - they'll have sized you up already.
A common thing for writers is to not really want to put their characters through the worst shit they can imagine. The stories that are worth anything all have something of their creators in them, and pushing through a barrier of 'I just don't want to go there' is part of the process - so it certainly helps to work with someone whose first instinct is to want to see you squirm inside your own depraved imaginings.
In addition to pushing you to the dark side, the story editor will protect you and your story - both from outside and inside influences, helping you negotiate both other people's thoughts about the script and your own. It can be very easy to become fixated on the details and lose sight of the whole, and that's where having an editor who can bring both an intimate knowledge and a detachment from the slog is really really fantastic...
