Charlie Productions : Director

The head honcho. The big cheese. The auteur. The master of the medium. Supposedly. But it is a horrifically skewed idea of how a film is made to make the director out to be the sole creative force on a film. It's just not true. For instance, more often than not a script will have been written and developed by a producer and a writer, together with the help of development execs and script editors and readers, right up to the point that this team feels happy to package the film in order to raise finance - which means getting a director and a lead cast onboard... So how much of the story is the director really in charge of?

What is true is that the director provides, well, a direction, by giving a clear creative vision for everyone to engage with and take on to further heights. A thousand questions will be asked of them each and every day, and it's all those tiny decisions that will help form the final film.

Whilst we have generally directed our own scripts, we've never been opposed to working with other directors - as can be seen here - by writing for others or helping bring their ideas to fruition. Collaboration is to us entirely what a film production is all about - and being a director is no different in that respect.

Charlie Productions believe passionately in doing things and always trying to stop in time for tea.
