Charlie Productions : Director Of PhotographyThe DoP (or Cinematographer) is responsible for the pictures. You'll see them walking around with lightmeters and staring at the sun through a darkened eyeglass. Some DoPs operate the camera themselves, some don't. The thing they are concerned with first and foremost, however, is the lighting. They spend days, years, decades, learning about light and shadow and how to control these and make things how they want them to look on the screen. The DoP is one of the most important jobs on the set, as befits someone who is in control of how the final thing looks. They need a good eye. Some have amazing technical knowledge, others none whatsoever, but the best can all light and frame spectacularly.
