Charlie Productions : Production Manager
What does a Production Manager do? We can pretend we know their job intimately - oh, it's all budgets and schedules and making sure the film runs smoothly and whatnot - but in reality, for us as directors, the Production Manager seems to do both nothing and everything. They are truly magic.
As a director, you will certainly notice the presence of a PM. Not because they are always on set - hardly, they're usually secreted away in a production office somewhere. But because things run smoothly. The usual problems of a shoot seem not to exist, and the director gets to spend all their time poncing about with the creative side of stuff, without even a sideways glance at the huge logistical nightmare that every single day of a shoot entails.
Having a good Production Manager is a very heaven, full of comfort, protection and a safe security that lets us go run and play.
