Charlie Productions : 3rd Assistant DirectorWhilst the 1st AD spends all their time on set marshalling the crew, and the 2nd spends all their time at base camp marshalling the cast, the 3rd AD spends most of their time walking between the two. The 3rd AD brings the actors to and from the set - and also marshalls extras when there are crowd scenes... And also assists the 1st AD in whatever way needed. But first and foremost it's about accompanying the actors, which makes it a particularly integral job - the best 3rds we've worked with have helped us immensely by ensuring that the actors are focussed and ready when they reach the set. Charlie Productions believe passionately in doing things and always trying to stop in time for tea.
