I can see the reason sound recordists get annoyed. The picture is first and foremost, everything they do can be re-recorded in post-production and often is, so a lot of the time they're just getting sound that can be synced to, whilst spending their days listening out for unusual hum or cars in the background or planes... Not on our shoots however. We've done post-production dialogue replacement, of course, but with our sound recordists on a similar location. No money, see. But it also got very good results. We try hard to get perfect sound at the time. No money, see. Not easy to iron out the cracks. Sound being invisible it's harder to see what's going on or how to change it. Certain people can think in frequencies, but we're not them. We've messed up the sound on so many of of our earlier projects that we revere the sound recordist. If the picture is awful, a lot of the time that is artistic. If the sound is awful, the sound is awful. We salute all with clean and accurate ears.
