01.09.05 Revolution In Speech.

Last weekend the Blaines took young star Alistair Marshall back into the recording studio to lock down the voice over track for their short film "Death Of The Revolution" (click here for stills). Once again Alistair, who starts secondary school tomorrow, amazed us all with his skills. This film is going to be so gooood...

23.08.05 Free Speech Signals Rebel.

Which sounds like a cross word clue but is really just my way of saying huzzah for us as our short film "Free Speech" bounces onto more screens around the world. We're taking part simultaneously in the Signals International Short Film Festival in Colchester from the 8th to 10th of September and in Toronto's famous Rebelfest International Film Festival from the 7th to 11th.

All of us here at Charlie Mansions would also like to take this opportunity to doff our collective hat toward our Award Winning star Jacqueline Oceane who, like Dorothy, is returning to Oz this week. Why it seems like only yesterday that I first saw her naked in the arms of a stranger. It's been a joy - come back soon!

08.08.05 Jacquie Wins!

We are delighted to announce that Jacqueline Oceane has won Best Actress in Shooting People's 2005 Shoot Out for her performance in our film "Free Speech". The award was voted for by the packed audience at the event in Hoxton on Saturday. For more information click here.

03.08.05 Thin Air.

After two weeks living in a van and travelling the country from Shetland to Shoreham the Blaines then bounced off to Nottingham to take part in the final development workshop for Cinema Extreme and then ended the month in Air studios surrounded by pure class.

So it's quite nice to start August back in the familiar surroundings of being dog tired and flat broke and not having enough seconds in a minute to do all the things we want to do...

Death Of The Revolution is shaping up nicely though, with the sort of score that would make Shostakovich kick a nun and with a bit of luck we might actually start showing some lucky people a sneek preview in September...

Also - give a whoop of joy - Tristram the Web God is back in the country and hopefully Katie McCullough will be back amongst us soon too. For those wondering why those twin Angels deserve special mention - just have an amble round the site which, like the Forth Rail Bridge is nearly half finished, and glory at the way that finally pages have links on them... many of them are quite creative too which is always a delight...

Anyway, time to actually write a film...

23.06.05 In Case You're Wondering...

We're writing and gearing up for our next jaunt in the Mobile Cinema which happens next month. Also next month we should record the sound track to "Death Of The Revolution".

19.04.05 End of the Pier.

Anyone who fancies a day at the sea should get down to Little Hampton on the 6th of May where we are very pleased to be taking part in the End Of The Pier film festival with "Free Speech", a film that seems rather to belong on the end of the pier...

Please see their website for more details

11.04.05 Palindromes.

Hats off to those lovely people at Raindance East. Not only is "Free Speech" screening as part of their shorts programme but it's also playing with Todd Solondz's new feature "Palindromes".

    Palindromes:
  • Saturday 23rd April, 8:30pm at the Genesis Mile End.
  • Wednesday 27th April, 8:30pm at the UGC West India Quay.

Later on in the year "Free Speech" will also be appearing in Filmstock and will be reviewed in the next edition of Hotdog Magazine.

As if that wasn't enough, you can also now find an interview with Ben and Chris on C4's Ideas Factory website, or by clicking here.

21.02.05 Bath time for Manchester and East London.

We are delighted to announce that "Free Speech" will be screening in Manchester's legendary Kino Film Festival on Friday 25th February at 4.15pm. Both Ben and Chris will be there along with star Jacquie Oceane and DP Oli Russell, who'll be getting his first glimpse of our astonishingly beautiful 35mm print. For more information please visit www.kinofilm.org.uk/

"Free Speech" will also be shown as part of Raindance East between the 21st and 28th April.

21.02.05 Four Days That Shook The World.

Or at least shook Camden Junior School in Carshalton, where last week we shot our latest short film "Death Of The Revolution", a sort of play school version of Alexander Nevsky. There'll be a lot more about this film on this website in coming months so for the time being we'd just like to say a huge thank you to our amazing cast and our astonishing crew all of whom worked to the bone last week. Thanks to their hard work our efforts over the past months have been worth while. This film is going to be great. Thank you.

09.02.05 Brand New Website!

It's HERE! Having promised both you and ourselves that we'd get this place ship shape again, or rather, website shape again, we have finally done it and unveil what the computer geek in me can only describe as charlieproductions.2.0.
Or to be more precise "we" haven't done all that much since most of the hard work has been done for us by our dear friend and new virtual host, Tristram Smith of Fresh Look Media (see link at bottom of the page...) Also, again to add further precision and clarity, the geek in me is demanding that I refer to this charliproductions2.0 public beta because, as a brief flick through the pages here assembled will show, it's not really finished yet.
Tristram has done all of his work but there are still some pretty important gaps and probably some rather glaring errors. If you notice anything amiss then please email us and let us know. We hope to have the whole thing pretty much polished in a couple of months but in the meantime we wanted to throw open the doors and let you in to see what we've done to the virtual paintwork. Hope you enjoy it.

08.02.05 3rd For A While.

We are delighted to announce that our short film "Pour Un Temps" shot as part of the 48hr Paris Film Challenge and made with the support of Richard Curtis has just won 3rd prize at the3rd Wood Green International Film Festival. Spookily this was also the 3rd film that we have made as part of the 48hr Challenge. OK so that's not really all that spooky.

Eitherway we'd like to once again congratulate our Producers, Alex Mayover and Emily Stone, our director of Photography Jonny Tyson and our cast Damien Kell and Katie Lloyd.

18.01.05 It's Wood Green!

OK so that doesn't work quite as well as "It's Halloween!" but you can't have everything. What we do have however is yet another chance for you to watch both "Free Speech" and "Pour Un Temps".

Hot from sell-out screenings at the ICA both films will be taking part in the 3rd Annual Wood Green Film Festival on Saturday 5th February. For more information please contact Chris Vousden on 020 8881-8348 or Carol Kennedy on 020 8443-4753 or email: wgtcm@aol.com

06.01.05. It's Halloween!

In keeping with our usual cavalier attitude to time keeping we've decided to kick the year off with Halloween and are delighted to announce a complete Blaine-wash of the coolest film festival in London.

'"The edgiest film festival in the UK" - Punk Rock in it's outlook, and uncompromising in it's vision Halloween brings you the best in short film, alongside multi-media music & film events over 4 days, returning to the ICA for it's second year...'

This includes pretty much everything we did last year...

  • Pour Un Temps (Saturday 15th, 3pm - Cinema 2)
Our latest short film, made as part of the Paris 48hr Horror Filmmaking Challenge and staring Katie Lloyd and Damian Kell.
  • Free Speech (Saturday 15th, 5pm and Sunday 16th, 8pm - Cinema 2)
Staring Danny Dyer and Jacqueline Oceane, nominated for Best Film at Rushes, hopefully screening for the first time from 35mm.
  • Rocklands (Sunday 16th, 10pm - Cinema 2)
Our cult documentary on the New Cross Guitar scene featuring early performances from Bloc Party, Special Needs, Art Brut, Twisted Charm and others.
