Charlie Productions : Get A BBFC Certificate
To be screened theatrically in England your film needs to get certified, or
rather classified, by the Britsh Board of Film Classification (BBFC).
For this to happen...
- You need to contact the BBFC on +44 (0) 20 7440 1570 and book a viewing).
- One day before the screening the BBFC (3 Soho Square, London) require from
you:
- A finished 35mm married print of your film.
- The correct paper work - a form with a brief description of the contents
and the rating you are after (but this doesn't take more than a couple
of minutes and is quite easy to do in person as you hand in the print.
If you are able to hand in the print in person of course, if you are using
a courier you will need to get a copy of this form in advance). In England
there are five different ratings - U (universal) PG (parental guidence)
and 12, 15 and 18 (the minimum age of the legal viewer).
- Money cleared in their account by the time they come to watch it. The
BBFC chage £10.20 sterling (plus Value Added Tax of 17.5%) per minute
with the duration calcuated on the total running length of the film including
all credits and headers/footers.
- It then takes about 72 hours for them to watch the film and prepare the
black board which you will then have to get put onto 35mm and stuck onto the
front of your film. Until this black board is on the front of your film it
cannot be screened. Although we have seen people stick it up in the box office
of the cinema...
