The bookies give you odds telling you that it's possible -it's nearly always unlikely, but it's possible. Winning on the horses is a science apparently, one where you have to study and make notes on every factor that can alter a horse's race. I don't know all the factors, but they include weather, the firmness of the racetrack, the actual racetrack, the horse's feeding and form, the jockey's form and ability in that particular weather.
