Charlie Productions : Crowd Scene For Existentialists

1998, 7mins, S16mm.

The peaceful philosophising of Jean and Ruth is disturbed by Paul who wants to post a letter, causing all three to question the name of reality.

Premiered At The Edinburgh International Film Festival in 1998 this utterly delightful five minute spiral of exisitential absurdity has also been shown at OMSK, The Big Chill, The Portobello Film Festiva and The Grenoble Open Air Festival Of Short Film.

Crowd Scene For Exisitentialists

For all manner of reasons we consider this to be our first proper piece of film making. We were both still teenagers when we made it and there is a vitality and a happiness that comes across in every frame. So what if some of the cuts are a little scary? The glee with which the three characters throw their daft ideas around makes this still one of the most uncomplicatedly fun films we've made.

The sound track also features a superb recording of our friends Matt Cartwright and Richard York discussing politics, economics and the Vietnam war whilst stoned off their tits. Special.

Ben Blaine describes the film as

Charlie Productions believe passionately in doing things and always trying to stop in time for tea.
