He Ain't Messin' With No Gold Digga', He IS The Gold Digga' Champion

What's furry, wears a bit of bling and struts itself around the cinema wave slapping the wake of people in its path? No, not "B.A." Baracus. No... not Tom Jones... That's right, Hallo Panda. Our short scooped the top prize of gold in the Filmmakers International Film Festival in Kent. If you don't believe us then have a look for yourself. WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP! Bringing home the gold! WHOOP! WHOOP!WHOOP! WHOOP!

Making Of Documentaries Can Make Your Life Expectancy Incredibly Longer

FACT. Which means we hold the serum here as the Making Of Documentaries have been uploaded for not just Old Man Dies, not just Free Speech but Death Of The Revolution and Hallo Panda too. Enough to make any sane human impossibly jealous. So get clicking on the Films page and watch the behind the scenes footage. It's worth it. And better news than that is that we have the pleasure of bringing beloved rogue and co-producer Zee Ahmad back into the fold after a rather elongated stay at the hospital. Glad to have you back on your feet and stomping with the rest of us Zee!

Furry Panda Sweeps The Nominations Up

Hallo Panda has seen the light of glamour once again and is nominated for not just one... or two... but three awards at the International Filmmaker Festival in Kent. It's also being screened not just the once but twice which means you have no excuse to see our last short film in all its furryvision and splendor. So if you're in the area or in the furthest corner of the world known to man get a plane, train or indeed automobile to Kent on either Friday 20th or Thursday 26th June to see why Peter Elliott, Benedict Wong and Hallo Panda have been nominated and appearing on the red carpet. It's because they're nice you know, very nice, all of them.

Free Speech Makes a Helluva Splash

Our delightful short Free Speech has been hailed as one of the best short films as highlighted by Total Film. The whole gubbins can be found here and what can we say... except we're well chuffed. Chuffed, proud and feeling quite good. Who would have thought a bath tub could bring that much more joy into one's life. Especially when it already has Danny Dyer and Jacqueline Oceane in it. Let's just say a bath full to the brim of good feeling.

Barrington's Off To Break Hollywood

Beloved producer, friend and general all round big mouth Barrington Paul Robinson has been hand picked to meet studio executives in Los Angeles and promote ethnic minorities within the media sector. "To prepare for the trip, the group has already been advised by Tim Bevan, the co-chairman of Working Title Films. They will also be guests of the Hollywood black film festival, which attracts some of the industry's most prominent agents and producers, as part of an initiative called Breakthrough Brits.". As featured in the Independent on Sunday Barrington will be one of 12 people making the eventful journey at the end of this month. Well done ol' chap and have a safe journey.

Revolution At The Rex

Our sumptuous film Death Of The Revolution is being screened in conjunction with Non-Multiplex Cinema at none other than the rather dignified Rex Cinema & Bar in Soho on 22nd April. Apparently it has a 3am licence for drinking and frolicking and general lavishness and is so exclusive that it has been graced with celebrities such as Justin Timberlake, Emma Bunton, All Saints ... and now they're going to have a taste of the Blaine Brothers. They are there to take questions about the film, not to get embroiled in the latest celebrity schmazz. I feel I must add that it is also home to a, "a state of the art 75 seat screening room, with its ergonomically designed red seats and funky carpet". Please check the Rex website for more details and come and find us.

Wandering Through MySpace Waiting For The 7.18

Wanting to step up in the technological world that we all crave the Blaine Brothers are now residing in MySpace territory and are waiting for some friendly faces to chat to them. So any filmmakers or writers or directors or fellow tea drinkers are more than welcome to pop in to our humble space abode and say hallo. Charlie Productions MySpace page is located here so do spread the jammy word and put the kettle on and we can all drink tea together. If that's possible to do worldwide whilst looking at a computer screen... I think so.

More Screenings...

Our furry friend of a film Hallo Panda is making more outings and generally making more friends than anyone else here at the office. Pah! He's making an appearance in Wales at the Swansea Life Film Festival 2008 on Saturday 31st May at the Dylan Thomas Centre. So if you fancy to be moping around Wales with nowt to do go see Panda shake his stuff because we're nominated in the Best Film Under 35 Mins category.

Also news ahoy once again for our entry into the 2008 da Vinci Film Festival in Corvallis, Oregon. Hallo Panda is scheduled to screen on Friday, April 18, at 9:10 p.m. in the Austin Auditorium of the LaSells Stewart Center. So once again if in doubt of what to do and you happen to be stumbling by Corvallis, Oregon... smooch with the best kids and go see the Panda in action.

Booky Face, Facey Book

Yes, we are part of that culture where we love to spend every other second checking mail and seeing what other people are up to. Technically it could be classed as stalking or even spying (the latter sounds sexier) but apparently if you add the words Facebook to your vocabulary then it's nine tenths of the law. So if you happen to be a Facebook lover or hater then we're on there too. Either search for the obvious Charlie Productions in the Pages section or see if one of your friends is a Fan of us and follow suit. That way you'll get all the updates and all the snazzy events that our fine selves will be in attendance of. And you can also document the state of Chris' hair and Ben's height in the photographs. Generally they're both sporadic in their various states of physicality and the mental attitude they implore on others around them. When in Rome...

Educating The Masses Is What We Do Best

Our nugget of a film Death Of The Revolution is being screened in The Roxy Cinema's Rotorelief's series on the 12th March at 7:30pm and it's painlessly free to get in. So what's the excuse? Each film that's screened will be followed up with a Q&A with one of the team and our nominated fellow is the loudest person in the room apparently so what better platform to put him on but the stage. That's Barrington Paul Robinson who'll be taking the questions centre stage. Your presence would be warmly appreciated and what's more you'll have some fun watching some films. Nice.

Get Your Short Film Funded, Made and Seen

The title gives it away really. "Get Your Short Film Funded, Made and Seen" has been launched and holds all the key information as to how to get your short film underway. With contributers such as Nik Powell, Daniel Mulloy and Rebecca Mark-Lawson this book could be your newest bible. One that makes sense and gets results. Embedded within the silken pages the Blaine Brothers feature a fair bit telling us how to budget, what cameras to use and generally being rather nice and helpful. Available from the Shooters shop on the website direct or a twee bookshop that might thrust a coffee in your hand the longer you sit there.

Read The Revolution

The Times seem to crave more Blaine Brothers action because they've uploaded the script for Death Of The Revolution for people to gander at and download in a pdf format here. It's part of the Shooting People book to give advice to new and existing filmmakers. So if you've seen the film and want to read the script go right ahead. If, after reading the script, you haven't seen the film... why the frilly heck not?

Up There With The Rest Of Them

Our slick and soapy film Free Speech is being aired as a free for all via The Times Online. It's been listed as one of the top 25 shorts as selected by Shooting People for inspiration which also includes Oscar winning film Wasp by director Andrea Arnold and also stars Danny Dyer.

Got Free Time? ...Watch Free Speech

The superb short film what we made a while back has been given airtime on the BBC FilmNetwork pages and if you fancy a looky-look then click on the words elusive badger and the page will appear as if magic has occurred before your very fingertips. Go on... you know you want to feel the magic of the interweb.

One... Or Two To Watch!

The two brothers of Blaine notoriety have been labelled as "one to watch" by the filmmaking magazine just for filmmakers (all others are considered not worthy; until proven otherwise). Check out the movieScope website here and go watch them. Go, go, go!

A New Year, A New Place To Trash

As the New Year of 2008 (just incase you didn't realise that is the year we preside in) rolls on and as we're barely able to tighten the belts we so generously loosened at Christmas, Charlie Productions has a new office. Shiny and spankingly marvelous it's based in the busy hub of The Hat Factory in Luton and is the new point of call for all the shenanigans we decide to embark on.

Talking of new things sprouting up we also have a new member of the team in the formidable shape of Katie McCullough. She's not really new, more like a pleasant reoccurring dream which doesn't involve teeth falling out or a chimp wielding a machete towards you. Neither is it the dream where a chimp dons a pair of gloves and starts work on your teeth. Maybe trained chimpanzees could fill the niche of NHS dentists which we're so short of... it's a thought. Anywho, no teeth involved as far as we know but she's flitted in and out of the Charlie office for a fair few years now and with no further meaningless education to get in her way we have successfully duped her to reign over the Luton office. She also makes sure we do things and spreads the cinematic love of our films all over the world. She's a secretarial hybrid of Nana Muskouri and Miss Moneypenny with a splash of friendly stuffage. We like her, she likes us. Warm feelings and a mug of tea all round.

Blaine Brothers AWOL

This is an appeal to Ben and Chris Blaine. They have been out of action for a short time and their whereabouts are unknown. They were last seen scribbling furiously whilst hunched over on plush sofas with a constant stream of tea being served to them by minions. They were wearing clothes and were writing with pens and possibly with the aid of a laptop. Chris is of a certain height, a certain weight and has hair. Ben is the other one. Independently they are considered to be kind, caring if not a little to forthcoming in showing their affection to strangers. Together they are a force to be reckoned with; they have between them eleven counts of mind theft and one conviction of blasphemy. If you have to approach them please do so with caution and a doughnut. If anyone has any information of their whereabouts please inform them that you are merely conducting a survey and ask them what do they think they're doing. If they respond with, "we're writing" then they are safe. Please do not be alarmed, these are the conditions the Blaine Brothers work in. Thank you for your time in these tense conditions.

Ben Bobs Down To Beseech To Baying Crowd At BFI

Ben was informing the masses a short time ago about filmmakers Jo Tidbury and Carlo Ortu. Held at the BFI Studio resting on the South Bank it was the first in a long line of retrospective shows to draw attention to the shiny jewels in the tidal wave of filmmakers that repopulate at every opportunity. For Ben's generous words leading up to the night please check out his blog.

Revolution Rife in China

Our nugget of a film Death Of The Revolution was recently screened in China informing the masses it's alright, it's OK if you want to spark a mutiny in the classroom. No word on how the screening went. They're probably too busy picking out the lego from the teacher's neck and removing the shards of pencils from the ceiling.

Charlie Productions believe passionately in doing things and always trying to stop in time for tea.
